After recently leaving an in-house SEO role, I’ve been reflecting on that experience.
One thing that worked well was sending out weekly “snippets” emails to the rest of the internal team. This was an idea I stole from the Kool-Aid Factory (an awesome resource I highly recommend).
The goal was to provide a small, readable update in an email to the rest of the team so they were kept in the loop on the main work that went on that week.
Things that can be included in weekly snippets emails:
- Information on new products or product updates that will have SEO implications.
- Notable changes in organic performance – good or bad.
- Wins from SEO-driven initatives.
The feedback I got from sending these snippets emails was positive. Had I stayed longer in the role, my goal was to increase the audience size of the emails to web product and content teams, to improve the visibility of the SEO team’s work.
